By now, you may have heard of the very popular TED talks.  Experts in an area are asked to present an inspiring speech on that topic.  The talks are so popular because the topics are presented in an interesting and easy to understand format.  But TED talks are not just for adults.  There are some amazing speeches given either by children or by adults who did amazing things as children.  Here are just a few of them that you may want to let your child watch.

Adora Svitak: What Adults Can Learn From Children

In her TED talk, Andora, a child prodigy, talks about what we as adults need to learn from children.  She emphasizes encouraging the dreams and plans of a child, feeding their creativity, and believing that they can achieve their dreams.  What a great message this sends your child – the idea that they can accomplish whatever they set their minds to do.

Thomas Suarez: A 12-Year Old App Developer

Thomas’s TED talk focuses on how his love for video games led to him teaching himself to develop them.  After designing his own app, he is now using his knowledge to teach other children to design video games for themselves.

Willard Wigan: Microscopic Art

Willard Wigan lived through a troubled childhood filled with loneliness.  However, his difficulties led him to develop an amazing artistic ability.  In Willard’s TED talk, he shares how his childhood enabled him to begin creating art so small that it can only be seen through a microscope.

William Kamkwamba: How I Built A Windmill

At only 14 years old, William built an entire windmill at his family’s home from only spare parts he found laying around.  In his TED talk, William explains how he came up with and carried out this seemingly impossible task.

These presentations are short, ranging from 6 to 20 minutes in length, but they are also important.  Whether listening to an adult who used his difficult childhood to produce great art, or hearing from children who are living out their dreams, each of these TED talks will inspire your children to meet their full potential.
